What are authors within the news approval workflow?
Authors can edit news articles scheduled for publication or submitted for approval (in addition to the news' creator and news editors).
If there is a team of people working on news together, it's recommended to define these users as authors.

Authors are defined on a space level. Every space can have their own authors, differing from the authors of another space.
If your team of authors remains identical for every space, you will have to re-enter these users as authors for every space that contains news.
How to define an author
Authors are defined in the space settings.
Navigate to a space in which news are published. Open the space tools. Within the space tools, navigate to the News Workflow tab.
(Space Tools → Permissions → News Workflow)
In the Team of authors for this space (users or user group) section, enter the users or user groups that should be defined as authors for this space.
Don't forget to click on the Save button at the bottom of the page.

If you want other users to have regular access to the news while it is waiting in the workflow space until the publication date is reached, please add these users in the field for team of authors.
Please note, even if you don't have any approvals, you still need a team of authors, even if you're only working with a dated publication.
