General Concept 

News Categories categorize your news by topics which are independent from spaces or labels. Unlike with standard Confluence labels, you can use uppercase letters and spaces in the names of your categories.

Categories are also clickable. Click on a category to open all news of this category in an overlay feed.


Create news categories

Navigate to Confluence administration → Linchpin Enterprise News → Categories.

 

Enter the name of your new category within the text input area.

Then, click on the Save button.

Tip

The name of the category will be used in macro configuration, so please make sure that your users understand what you mean with it.


Alphabetical & customized order of the news

When using news categories for news, admins can now define the order in which those categories are shown, instead of having them listed alphabetically. That way you can put the most important category in the front. (wink)

Custom order per news

When writing news, a news author can now decide the order in which news categories are shown for a particular article. To activate this feature go to Confluence Administration → Enterprise News → News Categories. There, simply select "Custom order per news". Then, just wait for the notification "Category sorting mode saved" and you're done.





The author of a news can now select the news categories in any order. The news categories will then be displayed in the order they were assigned.

If the order is to be changed, the news author simply has to remove the categories that are in the wrong place and insert the categories one after the other until the desired sequence is available.




Edit, translate or delete news categories 

To delete a category, click on the Delete button in the Actions column.

To edit/rename a category, click on the Editbutton in the Actions column. Change the name and click on the Save button.

 

Tip

In case someone tags a news entry with a category you were going to rename, we'll migrate that change for you.



To translate a category, click on the Translate button in the Actions column.

In the Add locale section, select the language into which you want to translate the category. Then, click on the + Add button.

Enter the translation and click on the Save button.

 

Translations are only available if you have the Linchpin Intranet Suite installed.
