Tasks
Systematic monitoring
Power users support other employees to focus primarily on content creation. This does not mean that they view, format and restructure each (new) page - these basics should also be mastered by normal users. Power users only provide support for structuring the pages. If they see pages with a page structure that does not make sense, they will improve it:
- restructure the content
- rearrange the content so it is readable and attractive (with the help of page layouts, helpful macros like panel, etc.)
- reposition the page in the page hierarchy
- link together related pages
- redesign or improve the display of attached files and documents
Identifying, editing and deleting out-of-date content
You will often find pages in company wikis that were last edited more than 2 years ago, or simply contain obsolete content. Power users are encouraged to flag, update or delete these pages.
Similarly, there are also obsolete attachments or comments that do not add anything to the page content or discussion, or perhaps even contain incorrect information. The same principle applies here: either flag accordingly or simply delete. The content has not disappeared completely or forever, because the versioning function allows you to view previous versions.
Flagging content
As already mentioned in the previous point you can flag (obsolete) content. Not just obsolete content, but generally every page can be assigned labels. When creating templates, power users should make sure that they include appropriate labels. Since the labels are searched, it is easier for users to find pages on specific topics with labels. Power user should ensure that all pages are labelled and pages of the same type are labelled consistently (e.g. minutes, notes, roadmaps, etc.)
Updating pages
Often page content will be discussed in comments or inline comments. If the outcome of the discussion impacts the page content, a power user is responsible for updating the page to reflect those comments. In addition, power users should fix spelling, grammar or logical errors quickly, when they come across them (not only when updating content because of comments, but when they visit any page). Power users can also simplify complex phrases and make them easier to read for all users.
Prevention
In order to avoid many of the errors mentioned above, power users can provide good examples for the other users to use as a guide. In addition to these examples, power users can create templates used to generate pages. In this way, they can include different guidelines, labels and a rough page layout, which makes it easier for other users to design their wiki content consistently and neatly.
Configuration
Microblog. Power users are responsible for configuring the microblog, by setting up a number of suitable topics in different spaces. The respective microblogs should be used sensibly. Each 'category' must be assigned to a space, otherwise you cannot create that 'category'. You can add several topics to the categories. Don't just arbitrarily choose an infinite number of (meaningless) topics, but select them carefully and deliberately.
Macros. Macros displaying incorrectly or showing a simple error message need to be fixed. Power users should try to find the cause (usually deleting and re-inserting the macro helps), so that the macro is functional quickly and the page is useful again.
News. Power users are also responsible for creating and setting up news. They choose in which space a news post should be created and its metadata (publication period, headline, labels, sticky posts), as well as integrating images and selecting the preview image, shown in the tiles in the Corporate News Feed or Cover Stories.
Events. Power users can also create and edit events.
Roles and permissions
Power users usually have user and group management permissions. One of their tasks is to keep track of who has which permissions for which spaces/pages. Should permissions change as a result of different processes, a power user should adjust and assign permissions appropriately. Power users also manage page restrictions.
