What are the available administrator roles?

Define which administrator roles are to be available in extranet spaces.

To do that, navigate to Confluence administration → Space Privacy → Roles & Permissions → Admin Roles → Available administrator roles.

Select the checkboxes you wish to activate and then click on the Save button.

Extranet Space Manager

These users can administer the extranet space. Creators of an extranet space automatically become extranet space managers.

Extranet space managers have all permissions of a regular space administrator, but can additionally assign users and groups and change their permission roles.

Confluence administrators have these rights by default and do not need this extra role assignment.

Please note

Please note that Extranet Space Managers can see all users in the system.

Extranet User Manager

Extranet User Managers are allowed to add users and set defined permission roles. They can also use all extranet features within their extranet space. Extranet User Managers can not add user groups to the extranet.

Extranet User Managers can see all other users within a system. They have no access to regular space administration.

Please note

Please note that in the default configuration, Extranet User Managers can see all users in the system. This can be changed, though.

Limit Extranet User Manager's user visibility

View how to limit which users are visible to Extranet User Managers in our visibility documentation

If you do limit user visibility for Extranet User Managers with this option, the users that they can see will depend on whether they are an internal or external Extranet User Manager.

Internal Extranet User Manager

Extranet User Managers who belong to an internal group can see all users in the system and assign them to their extranet space.

External Extranet User Manager

Extranet User Managers who belong to an external group can only assign users to their space with whom they share another space. That means they can manage the users within their space without seeing all of the other users in the system.

Info

These roles are assigned individually for each extranet space and do not apply across extranet spaces.

For example, if a user is an "Extranet User Manager" in one space and only has the "Editor" user role in a second space, they are not allowed to add users to the second space.

How do I create new users?

You can decide whether the Extranet Space Managers and Extranet User Managers should be able to create new users.

To do so, navigate to Confluence administration → Space Privacy → Roles & Permissions → Admin Roles → Creation of new users.

If you want to enable extranet administrators to create new users, activate the Yes, extranet administrators should have the permission to create users within extranet spaces checkbox.

Furthermore, you can assign additional default groups in which newly created users will be put in, if you wish to.

How do I predefine administrators?

You can select which users and groups are initially assigned specified administrator roles when creating new extranet spaces.

To do so, enter the name of the user or a group in the correct field - either Extranet Space Manager or Extranet User Manager.

Then, click on the Add button.

If you wish to remove an initial permission role, click on the delete button  to the right of the assigned role.
